BUT employees won a gold medal at this year’s MSV At the 65th International Engineering Fair in Brno, held from 8. 10. 2024 to 11. 10. 2024, the exhibit Flexible modular system for building cycle paths on unused railway lines received a Gold Medal in the Innovations in Transport and Logistics category.
This system is being developed in cooperation with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, STU in Bratislava (under the leadership of Professor Ľubomír Šooš), the Faculty of Civil Engineering, BUT in Brno, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, BUT in Brno and Prefa Brno a.s.
This is a prefabricated system that allows for the effective use of existing unused railway lines, e.g. for cycle paths, without the need for costly removal of the track superstructure. This also allows for the dismantling of the system and the rapid reuse of the railway if necessary. The panel can be designed using recycled materials. It is a second chance for the environment, for the health of the population, for the use of abandoned railway lines and for the recovery of waste. The development was carried out by the following employees: ÚBZK BUT FAST (doc. Miloš Zich and Ing. Švaříčková – structural and static solutions, including experimental tests), THD BUT FAST (prof. Rudolf Hela – material solutions). ÚVSSR FSI BUT (prof. Jiří Marek) participated in the development of the form for prefabricators). The test panel itself was manufactured by the company Prefa Brno (Ing. Louda). The system is protected by utility models in the Czech and Slovak Republics.
