JUNIORSTAV conference

The annual JUNIORSTAV conference took place on May 15.
PhD students and young researchers had the opportunity to present their work, engage in discussions, and build professional connections. This year saw fewer Czech participants compared to previous editions, but there was an increase in international attendees, particularly from Slovakia. Participants also came from other European countries such as Germany, Poland, and France.

The Structures and Transport Engineering section included ten presentations covering steel, timber, concrete and masonry structures, geotechnics, and building testing.
Three contributions focused on concrete structures – two from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at STU in Bratislava and one from BUT.

Tadeáš Fecko addressed the impact of recycled aggregate on the shear capacity of a slab supported at discrete points. Zuzana Haššová focused on the use of high-strength prestressing strands and their influence on structural design. Petr Moštěk, representing the Institute of Concrete and Masonry Structures, presented on the risks and historical development of prestressed concrete truss girders.

Future structural engineers at the construction site of the Multifunctional Hall – ARENA BRNO

On April 9, 2024, an excursion of our future structural engineers – students of the KSS field took place at the construction site of the largest strategic project of the city of Brno – the Multifunctional Hall ARENA BRNO.

Approximately 15 students participated in the excursion under the leadership of doc. Zich. Students had the opportunity to view the supporting concrete and steel structures of the future hall for more than 13,000 spectators and thus gain valuable experience.

Excursion: Incrementally launched highway bridge in Napajedla

Visiting company: FIRESTA-Fišer, rekonstrukce, stavby a.s.

Date: 14. 2. 2025

Description: This is a unique highway bridge that will be part of the north-south D55 highway. The excursion took place at the moment when the bridge deck was being incrementally launched over the Morava River in Napajedla in the Zlín region. In addition to its unusual technological solution of the bridge and an arch up to 20 metres high, the bridge was remarkable for acquiring the same shade as the famous Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

The excursion was attended by 28 students of Structural and Transport Engineering.

Awards

The construction Innovation and modernization of lock chambers to increase the safety and intensity of water transport at the Gabčíkovo waterworks, in whose projects the employees of the Institute of Water Resources and Energy under the leadership of doc. Ing. Miloš Zich, Ph.D. participated, received prestigious awards in the Czech and Slovak Republics.
